Wall Museum

The “Wall Museum”

Background story

Once the area around Rachel’s Tomb, a pilgrimage place for Moslems, Christians and Jews, was one of the liveliest in Bethlehem. The Hebron Road connected Jerusalem with Bethlehem, and its northern section was in fact the busiest street in town.

Sponsor a Wall Poster in Bethlehem

Help to expand the museum

We invite you to sponsor a large poster with a human Palestinian story to be attached on the Wall in Bethlehem.  Already 100 posters bring out the stories of Palestinian life and challenge the restrictions under occupation. This “Wall Museum” will be expanded and will present many new Palestinian voices to the world.

The Socratic Method

“Only by really listening to each other, it becomes possible to reach a deeper level of understanding and knowledge.” Annelieke Dortant, teacher philosophy (“levensbeschouwing”) at a secondary school in Utrecht in the Netherlands, volunteered this spring to facilitate several group meetings at AEI, using dialogue as method to explore deeper values. Here is her brief impression of a women’s teacher group meeting at the Sumud Story House, at the end of April.

Melvina ‘Awwad (80)

May God Bless Her Soul

Sunday 19 April Melvina Awwad (80) passed away. Melvina was a cherished friend, a long-time member of the Bethlehem Sumud Choir, a song and poetry writer, and always active in the Sumud Story House, from the very start. During the last half a year she was stricken by illness. She passed away quietly. May God bless her soul.

Melvina, we will miss you.
