The Shepherds Joy of Christmas
The appearance of the angels to the shepherds who were watching over their flocks of sheep frightened them, but the words of the angels saying, “Do not be afraid, for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord” motivated them to start singing and praising with the angels “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased”.
This good news brought joy and peace to them and they started a journey to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus. After the visit, the shepherds went back to their places and started spreading the good news.
The new digital world with its ongoing health, political, economic, social, environmental, and human rights challenges are signs of darkness that hinder the personal, family, and community relations especially in our beloved occupied Palestine on the path towards development, prosperity, unity, justice, freedom, human dignity, peace, reconciliation, Christmas joy and peace.
In the middle of this gloomy and dark atmosphere, we believers are determined and steadfast (samedeen) to begin similar journeys for a new life like those of our ancestors- the shepherds of Bethlehem and our Apostle Paul driving his journey to Damascus “Rise up and move on”.
I appeal and call upon our brothers and sisters in humanity, groups, people of goodwill, institutions, and governments to launch peaceful initiatives and campaigns to end up the evil’s violations and injustices against the sacred human lives, souls, and our common home: the earth, in areas of conflicts especially in the Holy Land within the spirit of Christmas for the sake of our young generations- the future leaders.
From the birthplace of Jesus Christ, the Arab Educational Institute – member organization of Pax Christi International, hopes this shepherds’ story of change will transform us from fear and doubt to faith and joy.
May the Prince of Peace – bless you all especially our benefactors, friends, and members for your support and encouragement. “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously”. Corinthians 2 (9:6)
