As part of the Palestinian Red Crescent psychological support program, and partnership with AEI, the psychological health department team organized series of sessions for the SSH group. These meetings aimed to support the women’s mental well-being and foster a sense of empowerment and unity within the community.
In one session, Elias Mubarak, a psychology graduate from Al-Quds University, led an awareness workshop entitled “Psychological Stress during Times of Crises and Wars.” The session focused on understanding psychological stress, its effects on individuals, and strategies to cope with challenging times.
A following debriefing session was conducted to encourage the women to reflect on their strength and Sumud. They shared empowering words to describe themselves-“strong, courageous, persevering, capable, and steadfast”- and discussed the importance of self-care and self-esteem in their roles as mothers and caregivers. The session honored the sacrifices of female martyrs, national activists, mothers of martyrs and prisoners, and women’s rights advocates. Mrs. Sandrine, Director of the Al Mashoura Institute, facilitated psychological activities to help participants release negative emotions and build positive self-worth.
In another significant event, a delegation from the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, conducted a workshop entitled “Age of Hope.” This session educated the women about the physical, mental, and emotional changes associated with this critical stage of life, providing guidance on managing symptoms and benefiting from the services of the hospital’s Age of Hope Clinic.
Adding a cultural dimension to the activities, the women have prepared several traditional Palestinian dishes such as Rekak and Lentils (Rushtaya) and Burbara. Such activities served as an opportunity to honor Palestinian heritage while strengthening community bonds.
By addressing psychological support, health education, and cultural heritage, the workshops and activities contributed to empowering women, fostering Sumud, and promoting holistic well-being.
